Free Tree Store Just for Steele Creek on January 19!

(January 2, 2019) Steele Creek, are you ready for trees, trees and more trees? This thriving southwest corner of the county has transformed from miles of farmland into the fastest-developing community in Charlotte. And that makes it the perfect spot for new trees.

To make that happen, TreesCharlotte is inviting residents who live in the 28273 and 28278 ZIP codes to our inaugural ZIP Code TreeStore on January 19, 2019! We'll have 200 beautiful trees to give away (yes, that means FREE!). Only those with proof of residency in one of those zip codes may get trees at this event.

Trees clean our air, reduce storm water run-off, cool our streets, reduce energy use, enhance wellness, increase property values, and give us beauty.

The Details:

  • Date: Saturday, January 19
  • Time: 10 to 11 a.m.
  • Location: Steele Creek Athletic Association, 13530 Choate Circle, Charlotte, North Carolina 28273
  • Who: Each address within zip code 28273 or 28278 is eligible for up to two free trees. Limit 2 trees per address. Proof of residency within zip code 28273 or 28278 (such as a driverís license, utility bill, etc.) must be shown at the event in order to participate.
  • Pre-registration: Opens January 9 at TreesCharlotte.org. Recipients must pre-register. A valid email address is required to register.
  • Day-of details: At the TreeStore, you will be taught how to properly plant and care for your tree(s). Tree training is mandatory. All recipients must sign a Stewardship Pledge Form.
  • The trees: Trees are in 7-gallon containers, range from 6' to 10′ tall and are 3 to 4 years old. They typically retail for $75 to $150 each. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee species type or quantities and will not know our species list until the day of the event. TreesCharlotte cannot reserve or transport trees.
  • Price: Free, however TreesCharlotte is a non-profit organization that relies on donations to be able to host events like this. A suggested donation of $20 is greatly appreciated and would help us give more trees to Charlotte residents.

Canít make this event?

TreesCharlotte hosts multiple tree stores throughout the planting season. Upcoming free stores include a first-timers store on February 2, a flowering tree store on February 9, and an 800-tree store on March 9. Details at TreesCharlotte.org.
