STEELE CREEK NEWS

Meeting on Winget Park Attendance Boundary is September 1

(August 28, 2005) Maps showing two proposed scenarios for attendance boundaries for the new Winget Park Elementary School have been posted on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools web site. The new school is scheduled to open in August 2006, and its attendance area will include areas currently served by the highly overcrowded Lake Wylie and Steele Creek Elementary Schools.

Also posted are tables showing projected enrollment and demographic breakdowns for the three schools for each of the two scenarios.

View information on these and other student assignment issues on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools web site at www.cms.k12.nc.us. Click on the link to the "Comprehensive Review of Student Assignment" link, or view the maps directly here:

Scenario 2

According to the Charlotte Observer (see The latest attendance-boundary proposals), a community meeting on the boundaries will be held at Lake Wylie Elementary School (13620 Erwin Road) on Thursday, September 1 at 6:00 p.m.

"Winget Park Elementary School" is the working name for the new school and is being used for planning purposes only. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board will adopt a permanent name this spring based on recommendations from the community.
