McDowell Nature Center Offers Kids' Programs in March

(March 6, 2005) The McDowell Nature Center (located at 15222 York Road within McDowell Nature Preserve) is offering three programs for children and families in March. For more information or to register for any of these programs, call 704-588-5224.

Eco-Trekkers: Folklore and Fables - Ages 6-8
March 12, 2005 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Why is the opossum gray? How did the bat come to be? Can eating that plant really make you smart? Folklore and fables are a fun and fascinating part of nature. Join us as we listen and learn about some of the whys and hows of the forest. This will be an adventure in the imaginations of all. This program is open to ages 6 to 8 and costs $3 per child. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.

Preschool Naturalist Series: Folklore and Fables - Ages 3-5
March 12, 2005. 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 - 2:30 p.m.

ALL THAT SLITHERS - Ages 8 and older
March 24, 2005 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

As spring approaches, our scaly, cold-blooded friends wake from their winter slumber in search of food and friends. Join us for an exciting look at the local turtles and snakes that call our backyards home. We will discuss local species, fairy tales, and folklore, and get up-close and personal with many of our reptilian friends. This is your chance to experience one of nature's most unusual and beautiful groups of animals! This program is open to ages 8 and older and costs $4 per adult and $3 per child. Ages 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
