Commercial Development Approved on Steele Creek Road at Shopton Road

 (March 16, 2002) On February 18, the Charlotte City Council approved rezoning for a 49-acre commercial development on the southeast corner of Steele Creek Road and Shopton Road being planned by Atapco Properties, Inc. It is the type of development expected to appear around the new interchanges for I-485, which is adjacent to the property on the south side.

The development will include a hotel with up to 200 rooms adjacent to the interchange, retail and restaurant space (possibly including drive-through and sit-down restaurants and other retail such as banks or gas stations), and up to 500,000 square feet of office space.

The development includes landscaped setbacks from adjacent roads, and the developer will upgrade the roads with sidewalks and extra turn lanes.
