City Plans Steele
Creek
Area Transportation Projects
(June 6, 2023) Keith Bryant, Design Section Program Manager,
Charlotte Department of Transportation, gave a presentation on
Transportation Projects planned by the city within City Council District
3 at Victoria Watlington's Town Hall on June 3, highlighting Steele Creek projects, (See
a map and full list
of Charlotte Department of Transportation and North Carolina
Department of Transportation projects in District 3
below.)

The City of Charlotte will widen Brown-Grier Road to four lanes
with curbs and shared-use paths as part of the city's
Comprehensive
Neighborhood Improvement Program (CNIP) for the
Whitehall/Ayrsley area. This project also includes adding
sidewalks or shared-use paths along Sandy Porter Road from Red
Hickory Lane to Williams Glenn Rd. Construction is expected to begin
in fall 2024.


A restriping project will add bike lanes to Whitehall Park
Drive, connecting Brown Grier Road to Ayrsley and S Tryon Street.
Striping is to be completed in 2023.


A pedestrian safety and capacity improvement project at S Tryon
Street and Sandy Porter Road is nearly complete.

The
shared-use path along Westinghouse Boulevard is part of the
city's
Comprehensive
Neighborhood Improvement Program (CNIP) for the
Whitehall/Ayrsley area. It will connect Steele Creek
Road, which will also have a multi-use path in the future, with S
Tryon Street.

The city is installing new street lighting along key corridors,
including S Tryon Street.


Other projects will be constructed or paid for
by developers as a condition of their rezoning approval. These
projects are not shown on these Charlotte project maps.
