STEELE CREEK NEWS
"Ride to Read" Community Cycling Event Nov. 6 Supports Literacy
(October 26, 2004)
Ride to Read will offer members of the Charlotte community the
chance to come together for a day of cycling to benefit child
literacy and support people with disabilities. Push America and the
Steele Creek YMCA have joined together for this event to help
champion their cause to benefit the local Charlotte community.
Routes include 20,
40, and 60 mile loops, plus a 10 mile Fun Ride. All riders in Ride
to Read are required to wear ANSI or SNELL approved helmets.
After the ride is completed a community celebration will take place
with plenty of food from local vendors, a live band performing, and
a local radio station on site. Your participation in this event will
improve literacy skills for our children in the Mecklenburg County
school system, sending them well on their way to academic success.
Why participate? Ride to Read is not just a cycling event, it is a
community celebration for everyone. Most rides that people
participate in are for great causes and some are for training, but
we are bringing you this community celebration to enjoy for the day
and not just the morning ride. There will be a lot of excitement
after the ride. Bring your friends and family and join us in this
celebration and commitment to providing our children with programs
that will help improve literacy in the Mecklenburg County school
system. One person can make a difference and we hope to see you out
on November 6.
Come out and cycle or just hang out at Ayrsley and have fun. This
community celebration is for everyone and includes arts, music,
104.7, food, games, and a rock climbing wall. All proceeds go to
support Steele Creek YMCA’s Project Starfish and the projects and
programs of Push America.
Official Ride To Read Giordana jerseys are available for $60 if you
register in advance. Supplies are limited, so make sure you register
soon and get your official Ride to Read jersey.
