The Steele
Creek Community Band Has a New Web Site
(September 29, 2004)
The Steele Creek Community Band now has its own web site at
www.steelecreekband.com.
The band is
looking for members! They need all instruments and welcome all
levels of playing skill. The one important characteristic of a
Steele Creek Community Band member is a passion for music and the
desire to meet new friends.

The original
Steel Creek Community Band was formed in 1883. ("Steel" became
"Steele" around 1940.) According to Mr. Robert Collins Freeman, in
an article published in the Charlotte Observer in 1938, "No
affair of consequence took place in Charlotte that we did not
furnish music." Over the years, a total of 36 men were members of
the band. "None were ever known to be in trouble or arrested for a
violation of the law." The band's last public engagement was in
Wadesboro in 1925.
For more
information about the original Steel Creek Band, see the story on
the
Steele Creek Historical and Genealogical Society web
site.
