Bassmaster Classic Coming to Lake Wylie July 30
(June 9, 2004)
The 2004 Bassmaster Classic will take place on Lake Wylie from July
30 to August 1. Anglers will launch from the Buster Boyd
Access Area daily at 6:30 a.m. and search for the fish that will win
them the title of 2004 Bassmaster Champion.
Although the
actual competition will take place on Lake Wylie, the big spectator
event is the weigh-in, which will happen daily at the Charlotte Coliseum.
Other events will occur throughout the Charlotte area. You don't
need to be an angler to have a great time, but if you are, you are
in for a real treat. Here is a list of events:
- Bassmaster
Classic - Lake Wylie.
- Daily Weigh-in - Charlotte Coliseum; free admission. See who
will take home the crown-jewel title in heavy weight bass fishing.
- Outdoor Show/Expo - Charlotte Convention Center; free admission; July
29-August 1. See the
latest in bass boats, outboards, gear, and much more.
- Blue Grass music, fishing demonstrations, and more for the center
city worker! Check out Wachovia Plaza or Founders Hall for an
interesting afternoon.
- The Bassmaster Family Fest (formerly Kids Classic) - Freedom Park;
July 28.
- Junior Bassmaster World Championship - Lake Norman. See the
country's best young bass anglers go for the title!
The Bassmaster Classic is the world
championship of bass fishing and the premiere title in the sport.
The Classic began in 1971 as Bobby Murray won the $10,000 top prize
in the winner-take-all event on Nevada's Lake Mead. In 2004, the
34th Classic will offer a top prize of
$200,000 and a total prize purse of $700,000.
ESPN and ESPN2
plan to dedicate 11 hours of television coverage to the
Classic, including live coverage of the daily weigh-ins, and for the
first time viewers will receive live updates from the on-the-water
competition. Lake Wylie should get major national exposure during
the tournament.
