Steele
Creek Library Fund Drive Begins
(November
5, 2003)
Steele Creek is getting a new library. It's scheduled to open in
summer 2004, and construction is well under way on Steele Creek Road
(Hwy 160) in front of the new Southwest Middle School. The county
does not have funds for the "extras" in the library so the Steele
Creek Library Association is kicking off a fund drive to raise
$100,000 for the library. Planned enhancements include extra
computers, equipment for computer classes, children's computers, and
additional puppets and new puppet stage. The meeting room will be
equipped with all types of advanced media equipment to be used for
presentations.
The Steel Creek community is rich in local history. The main library
has given special permission for the Steele Creek Historical and
Genealogical Society to place its files in the new branch library.
Display cases will be installed for the Society to display historic
items of local interest, which will change on a quarterly basis. Old
pictures of homes, schools and churches that are no longer standing
also will be displayed.
Please make a donation to the fund drive so that Steele Creek will
have the best equipped library in the county.
Contributors can donate at one of five levels:
Library Philanthropist...........$5000 and up
Bookcase Patron.................$1000 to $4999
Shelf Benefactor.....................$500 to $999

Those who give $1000 or more will have their names placed on a
plaque in the library, and a Recognition Book will honor those who
contribute $100 or more.
