Task Force to Recommend Boundaries for New Southwest Middle School
(September 26, 2002)
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) has announced he process for
developing home school boundaries for three new schools opening in
2003. One of these is the southwest middle school, currently under
construction on Steele Creek Road.
A Student
Assignment Parent Task Force (SAPTF) will be developed to advise the Superintendent and assist CMS staff with
developing proposed home school boundaries for them. The principal
of each school impacted by the new school will select three representatives
to serve on the task force. The group will meet from October 28
through November 15, and will make a recommendation to the board on
November 26. The School Board hopes to vote on the boundaries at its
December 10 meeting, in time for families to file applications for
next year's attendance.
The task forces
will hold open public meetings, which will take the place of public
hearings.
Other schools that
may be impacted by the new southwest middle school boundaries are
Kennedy Middle, Quail Hollow Middle, Lake Wylie Elementary, Steele
Creek Elementary, and Nations Ford Elementary.
