Steele Creek Areas are Eligible for Neighborhood Matching Grants

Click for larger map(July 20, 2002) The City of Charlotte administers a Neighborhood Matching Grants Program for neighborhoods with median household incomes not exceeding $75,267 (based on 2002 median household income guidelines). The program is designed improve neighborhoods and the lives of the people who live there. A map of eligible neighborhoods in Steele Creek is below.

Grant funding ranges up to $25,000. Neighborhood-based business or resident organizations may apply if the majority of the members live or operate businesses in the neighborhood. Neighborhood-based community development corporations with at least one-third neighborhood representation on their boards may also be eligible to apply.

Neighborhood associations may apply under four project categories:

  1. Neighborhood Improvement,
  2. Crime and Public Safety,
  3. Neighborhood Organizing, Organizational Development, and
  4. Neighborhood Educational, Recreational, and Cultural Initiatives.

The application deadline for the next round of grants is September 15. To apply, a representative from the organization must attend at least one of the pre-application workshops that will be held at the Old City Hall at 600 E Trade Street each Monday evening in August from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Workshops are on August 5, 12, 19, and 26.)
