Decisions Expected on Three  Rezoning Petitions on September 21

(August 15, 2020) The next zoning meeting of the Charlotte City Council is scheduled as a virtual meeting on Monday, Septemver 21 beginning at 5:00. Please monitor the City Council meeting schedule HERE. Click on the petition numbers below for more information about each petition.

Upcoming Decisions

The City Council held Public Hearings for the following petitions on July 20, and the Zoning Committee reviewed them at its meeting on August 4. Planning Staff recommended approval of all three petitions, and the Zoning Committee also recommended approval of all three petitions. The City Council should make decisions on these at its September 21 meeting.

2020-014 - Revision to previous zoning for 30 townhouses on the west side of Erwin Road. Parcel # 20122113.

2020-046 - Take 5 Oil Change on South Tryon Street at Whitehall Park Drive (former Applebee's location)

2020-053 - Expansion of Laurel Oak Dog Farm Kennel on Youngblood Road. Parcel # 21705127.

Approved Petitions

The Charlotte City Council approved the following petition at its January 21 meeting.

2019-030 - Up to 272 apartments on 30.73 acres (8.85 units per acre) north of S Tryon Street and southwest of Erwin Road. The Steele Creek Area Plan calls for up to 4 units per acre in the northern parcel and up to 8 units per acre in the southern parcel. The site includes a large area of wetlands that will be preserved. Petitioner requested a change from R-3 to R-12MF(CD). However, the original petitioner, Continental 475 Fund, has withdrawn from the project, so it will not proceed unless a new developer comes in. Parcel # 20122103 and 20122117.

The Charlotte City Council approved the following petition at its May 18 meeting.

2019-176 - Former Steele Creek Presbyterian Church and other nearby parcels east of Steele Creek Road and south of Byrum Drive, currently owned by the City of Charlotte and Charlotte Douglas Airport. This is straight up rezoning to I-2 with no conditions or site plan. Parcel # 14121111, 14121101, 14121102, 14121103, 14104123, and 14121120.

The Charlotte City Council approved the following petitions at its June 21 meeting.

2020-010 - Addition of a coffee shop and gathering place at Christ the King Church, which is allowed in INST but not R-3. Parcel # 21912114.

2020-020 - Rezoning for office uses on Arrowood Road at Microsoft Way. Parcel # 20322114.

2017-065 - Apartments at the end of Rigsby Road east of Clearview Acres subdivision off Steele Creek Road south of I-485 near the Berewick Town Center. Parcel # 20107504.

2019-085 - Mixed Use Development on Arrowood Road next to Top Golf. The revised plan removes offices and adds apartments. Parcel # 20145105.

2019-128 - YMCA, residential units, and continuing care community south of Sledge Road between Shopton Road West and Steele Creek Road. Parcel # 19907102, 19907105, 19905101, 19906107, 1990711, and 19951106.

2019-173 - Light industrial development on 150 acres at the southern end of Garrison  Road, north of Dixie River Road, and northwest of Berewick District Park. Parcel # 14129102, 14129105, 14118165, 14129101, 14129103, 14129107, 14118119.

2020-038 - 119 unit, 3-story senior community on Steele Creek Road south of Erwin Road. Parcel # 20143102.
