STEELE CREEK NEWS
"Gourmet Grocery"
Planned at RiverGate Corner
(December
9, 2016) Representatives of the owners of the property on the
southwest corner of S Tryon Street and Steele Creek Road revealed at the
Community Meeting for
Rezoning Petition 2016-149 that they
are planning
to add a gourmet grocery store on that corner.
The store will be
just over 23,000 square feet, slightly larger than the Books-A-Million nearby. The building would be too small for a Whole Foods,
they said, but they were not ready to reveal the name of the store,
nor say if it was a chain that already had locations in Charlotte.
The new rezoning petition is requesting a site plan amendment to
Rezoning Petition 2011-082. Changes include decreasing the
total allowable buildings from 100,000 to 90,000 square feet, increasing
the maximum individual building size for one building from 20,000 to 25,000 square feet, and
allowing a business with an accessory drive through (bank or
restaurant) at the south end of the property. Plans call for the extension of Steelecroft Parkway through the property to connect with Walker Branch
Drive.
The area between Steele Creek Road and Hoover Creek Boulevard
will be known as RiverGate Park. The Rezoning petition asks for a
maximum of seven buildings on the site to be used for office and
retail. One building is already complete and occupied by a medical
office.
The Public Hearing for this rezoning petition is scheduled for Monday, December 19 at the regularly scheduled Charlotte City Council zoning meeting..
