STEELE CREEK NEWS
October 10 for the November Election
Registration Forms are Available at
the Steele Creek Library
(September 12, 2014) The deadline to register to vote in the November 4 election is October 10.
Voter Registration Forms are available for downloading from the
North Carolina State Board of Elections web site. Forms also are
available at the Steele Creek Library (13620 Steele Creek Road) and other libraries.
You will need to complete the form and mail it back to your county
board of elections by October 10.
The mailing address for the Mecklenburg County Board
of Elections is PO Box 31788, Charlotte, NC 28231. For more
information, visit the
Mecklenburg County Board of Elections web site.
Volunteers are available at the Steele Creek Library on most
days to assist people with voter registration and collect completed
forms. If you do not see the voter registration table inside the
main entrance, check back at a later time or request a registration
form from a library staff person. However, library staff cannot
assist in completing the forms and cannot collect them.
Voters will not need to show a photo ID until the 2016 election.
However, poll workers should be asking all voters if they have acceptable
IDs. If they do not, poll workers should be collecting information from
the voters so that their county board of elections can reach out to
them and ensure that they can obtain proper photo ID before 2016.
Other provisions of the Voter Information Verification Act
do take effect this year. These include:
- Early Voting has been cut
to 10 days.
-
No same day registration during
Early Voting
- Straight-ticket voting has been
eliminated.
- Provisional ballots cast in the
wrong precinct on Election Day will not count.
- Pre-registration for 16
and 17 year olds has been eliminated.
Offices on he November ballot include US Senate, US
Representatives, NC Legislature, County Commissioner, Sheriff,
various judges, and other offices. Mecklenburg County
residents can go to
View My Sample Ballot and enter their home address to
view their sample ballot.
