Names
Approved for New Elementary School and Three Olympic Schools
(April 23,
2014) On April 22, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of
Education approved the name of the new elementary school
that is under construction on York Road and of three schools
in the Olympic Community of Schools.
The
new school will be called
Palisades
Park Elementary School,
which recognizes the significance of the Palisades community,
the largest development within the school's attendance area,
as well as Palisades Park, a neighborhood park currently
under construction adjacent to the school. Rhein Medall
Communities, the developer of the Palisades, helped
facilitate the acquisition of the school site and has shared
in significant development costs.
Additionally, the school mascot is the Panthers and the school
colors are teal and black.
Renaissance School at Olympic has been renamed
The
Renaissance School of Arts and Technology
to more clearly define a connection between the school name
and the curriculum being offered.
On December
11, 2013 the Board of Education voted to consolidate the
International Business and Communications Studies and
International Studies and Global Economics high schools at
Olympic into a new school with a finance and business
leadership theme. The name of the new school will be
The School
of Executive Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development.
This name recognizes the focus for the school, which will be
the owning and operating of businesses in the executive
role. Entrepreneurial development would address the
preparation needed to be successful in the business world.
Also on
December 11, 2013 the Board of Education voted to open a new
school at Olympic with an advanced manufacturing and
entrepreneurship theme. The new school will be named
The School of Technology,
Entrepreneurship and Advanced Manufacturing (TEAM).
This name recognizes the focus of the school. The acronym,
“TEAM,” was attractive because of the “team” concept.
Because technology is a key component of advanced
manufacturing, that word was incorporated into the name.
