Steele Creek Area
Plan Meeting January 26
(January 14,
2012)
A meeting is
scheduled for Thursday, January 26 at 6:00 p.m. in Room 280 of the
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center (600 East Fourth Street) to
discuss proposed changes to the Steele Creek Area Plan with the
Citizens Advisory Group and other interested persons. (Parking is
available in the parking deck located on Davidson Street between
Third and Fourth streets. Please bring your parking ticket to the
meeting for validation.)
The plan has
been going through the review and adoption process since June 2009.
As a
part of the process, citizens are given the opportunity to comment
on the draft plan recommendations. During this process, some
citizens expressed concern to Planning staff and City Council about
the land use recommendations for The Sanctuary area and a pending
rezoning (Petition No. 2011-065). As a result, Planning staff met
with this group to get a better understanding of their concerns.
The
group shared that their concerns extend beyond The Sanctuary
development and include parcels that are closest to lake Wylie. In
summary, their concern is about the environmental impact of higher
density on the lake. As a result of this meeting, another revision
to the draft plan is being proposed. This revision is change the
recommended land use from residential up to four dwelling units per
acre to one dwelling unit per acre for numerous parcels that are
closest to the lake. This change will not impact the existing zoning
of property. Neither will the plan recommend a zoning change. In
addition, the recommended density for parcels that are approved for
development or developed with a higher density will not change.
