The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department's

Recreation Centers, throughout the County, such as
Berewick

winter. Registration begins in late September, practices start in
November and games begin in December or January depending on league.
Age Divisions & Leagues (Age as of January 1,
2012):

- This division is purely a “teaching” division for kids ages 4-6.
Players are given the opportunity to learn new skills in a
non-competitive environment while getting acclimated to the team
concept. Scores are not kept and coaches are allowed on the floor
for instruction purposes. This division stresses fun and equal
playing opportunities for each child regardless of talent level.
Registration Fees: $65 Per

Rec-Starters
Division – This division will give those players
that register as individuals the opportunity to go through a
Skills Assessment and Team Formation process to balance teams for
competition. This will be a low stress, fun league that gives each
child an opportunity for equal playing time. Teams in this
division are assigned to coaches only after the Player Skills
Assessment and Team Formation process (blind-draft) so coaches
will ensure that the teams are balanced since any one of the final
teams formed could be theirs. This division is available as an
option for kids in the 8U, 10U &12U
age groups.
Registration Fees: $65 Per
Participant
Rec-Vets -
Open Division – This division is tailored for those
coaches, parents and kids that want to stay together as a team
because of the positive experience from previous seasons,
friendships and an opportunity for carpooling but will still be
competition suited for more recreational play. This division also
includes those teams that are the only team in that age group
registered at a particular recreation center, therefore, not being
eligible for the Player Skills Assessment and Team Formation
process which requires a minimum of two teams in the same age
group at one Recreation Center. This division is available as an
option for kids in the 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U & 18U age groups.
