City Council Set
to Approve New Districts with Few Changes
(June 11,
2011) The Charlotte City Council has an item on its June 13 agenda
to update the districts used to elect the seven district
representatives on the Council. Redistricting is necessary to
reflect new 2010 census population counts and also to add areas that
Charlotte will annex July 1 into city council districts.
All of the area of
Steele Creek that is within the Charlotte city limits is in City
Council District 3. This district also includes areas in West
Charlotte and generally is bounded by Freedom Drive in the north,
South Boulevard in the east, and the Charlotte city limits on the
west and south.
The map attached
to the City Council agenda shows one precinct at the north edge of
the district shifting from District 2 to District 3 and the area in
the Whitehall and Beam Road areas that will be annexed July 1 also
added to District 3.
The current
District 3 representative is Warren Turner. The next election for
Charlotte mayor and all City Council representatives is this
November. Candidate filing begins July 25.
