CMS to Lay off 44
from Steele Creek Area Schools
(July 3,
2010) The Charlotte Observer reported yesterday that
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will lay off 804 staff, including 44
teachers and other staff from Steele Creek area schools. Budget cuts
have forced the school system to reduce staff. See
CMS layoffs hit hard at small schools (Charlotte Observer, July
2, 2010).
The Olympic Community
of Schools took a major hit with 22 layoffs, including 16 teachers.
This is the highest among all system high schools except Garnger,
which, like Olympic, is divided into smaller schools. For Steele
Creek area schools overall, layoffs included 25 teachers and 19
associates, assistants, secretaries, and other staff.
The Observer acquired
a list of persons being laid off through the Freedom of Information
Act and has made these available through a
Searchable Database.
