STEELE CREEK NEWS
Steele Creek Area
Plan Community Workshop is March 25
(March 19, 2010)
A group of Steele Creek residents and other interested persons have
been meeting with city and county staff to discuss the development
of an area plan for Steele Creek. The next meeting will be a
Community Workshop, which will solicit input from additional
community members on the plan's concept map and the goals and
policies.
The Community
Workshop will be on Thursday, March 25 beginning at 6:00 PM in the
Community Room at Carolinas Medical Center - Steele Creek.
(CMC-Steele Creek is located at 13640 Steelecroft Parkway, just
southwest of RiverGate. The Community Room is in the back right
corner of the building, on the opposite side from the emergency
room.)
The
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Department staff will provide an
update on the process so far.
The area plan will
establish an overall vision for the Steele Creek community and
develop land use and transportation policies. The plan will
ultimately guide property owners, developers, and elected officials
in making land use and development decisions. Further, it will be
used as a tool to evaluate rezoning applications and development
plans, and with other city-wide initiatives, to coordinate and
prioritize infrastructure service provisions and funding
allocations.
The Steele Creek Area
Plan will update the city's future land use map that shows a
specific future land use recommendation for every parcel of land
within the city’s jurisdiction. This map provides guidance for
future development. The plan may change the future land use
recommendations for some parcels, but it will not affect how
property is currently used or the zoning of property. It will only
provide guidance for future development.
The final
plan will be presented to the Charlotte City Council for approval
later this year.
