2010 Annual Meeting: We're Waiting on the Bonds
(February 26, 2010) Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board member and former Olympic Football Coach Joe White was the featured speaker at the 2010 meeting of the Steele Creek Residents Association last night. Coach White, along with CMS Planning Specialist Dennis LaCaria, discussed outstanding projects approved in the 2007 school bond, including a new elementary school near the Palisades and improvements to the Olympic High School Stadium. However, the county has not yet sold the bonds to fund these projects.
Gwen Cook, Greenway Planner with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department, discussed outstanding projects approved in 2004 and 2008 park bonds, including additional construction at Winget Park and the extension of the Walker Branch Greenway south to Smith Road. However, the county has not yet sold the bonds to fund these projects.
Officer Lisa Speas of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department spoke about successes achieved through the Steele Creek Youth Network. (See Steele Creek Youth Network Continues to Change Lives.)
