CMC Wants to Add a
Helipad to its Steele Creek Facility
(December
21, 2008) Carolinas Health Care System, which operates Carolinas
Medical Center hospitals, has submitted a rezoning petition to amend
the site plan for its Steele Creek facility to allow construction of
a helipad on the property. (See Petition
2009-019.)
As stated on
the rezoning application, "The purpose of the amendment request is
to accommodate a helipad on the medical campus in order to support
emergency transportation needs of patients of the emergency center."
Carolinas Medical Center-Steele Creek currently is under
construction on S Tryon Street just west of RiverGate. It includes a
healthplex, which is a freestanding emergency room that will be open
24 hours. Serious cases will need to be transported to another
facility, and the helipad will provide an option for these cases.
The facility is scheduled for completion in late 2009.
The public hearing on
the petition is scheduled for February 16, 2009.
