Big Sweep and RiverSweep This Saturday

(September 30, 2008) Big Sweep is October 4. This is an annual cleanup of rivers, lakes, and creeks. Last year more than 600 volunteers picked up 8 tons of debris in Mecklenburg County. Help us make it bigger and better in 2008!

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services will be manning eight sites this year, including Walker Branch Greenway (off NC 49 at RiverGate, across from Home Depot) -- or you can get your own group together and clean up a creek in your neighborhood and report your results online.

When: Saturday, October 4
Time: 9:00 am 1:00 pm
Meet: At Walker Branch Greenway
Bring: Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen.
Wear: Old clothes you don't mind getting wet and dirty, sturdy boots or shoes.
Provided: Gloves, trash bags, snacks and drinks.
All children 14 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

For more information, see Big Sweep 2008 or contact Erin Oliverio at 704-336-5595 or erin.oliverio@MecklenburgCountyNC.gov .

Also, the Catawba Riverkeepers, the Lake Wylie Chamber of Commerce, and the Lake Wylie Marine Commission are sponsoring Riversweep on October 4 from 9:00 AM to noon. Information on the event is at Lake Wylie Covekeepers. The Buster Boyd Bridge public boat landing is the base location of the event. You can drop off trash there. There'll be an after event party at T-Bones on the Lake. For more information please call: 704.825.3588 or 704.679.9494.
