Ex-Panther Plans
Day Care and Townhomes near Olympic High
(May 17, 2008) Mike Minter, former Carolina Panther defensive safety, and
former teammates
Mike Rucker, Stephen Davis, and Muhsin Muhammad are owners in a group that plans to build a day care facility and townhome
community on the southwest corner of Brown-Grier Road and Sandy Porter Road.
This will require rezoning from the current R-3 to INST(CD) for the
day care site and R-8MF(CD) for the townhomes. See
Petition 2008-111.
The day care would be
part of their
Ruckus House Learning Center chain. The first Ruckus
House opened in Harrisburg in 2005, and the second recently opened
in the Moss Creek Village community near Concord. The day care would
be approximately 20,000 square feet and could accommodate 300 kids.
It would have a gym as well as classrooms for a pre-school.
According to their
web site, "The Ruckus House concept came about when several
professional football players from the Charlotte, North Carolina
region began looking for childcare for their own families. While
some daycare facilities offered excellent academic programs and
others focused on play, the players were looking for something more:
a program that combines education, play and a third ingredient:
building Christian character."
The townhome section
would contain from 35 to 40 for-sale townhomes.
Four single-family
residences are currently on the site.
A public hearing is
scheduled for July 21. As this is a conditional rezoning, the
petitioners are required to hold a community meeting. The site and
time will be announced on this web site as soon as it's known.
