Berewick to be
Studied for Possible Annexation in 2009
(June 11, 2007)
At its regular meeting on June 11, the Charlotte City Council
approved resolutions of consideration identifying eight areas around
the city that will be studied for possible annexation in 2009. The
only area in Steele Creek included is the Berewick and adjacent
areas.
The Berewick area of
consideration is bounded on the west by Lake Wylie; on the north by
Bracebridge Court, Dixie River Road, Steele Creek Road, and Shopton
Road; on the east by Sandy Porter Road and I-485; and on the south
by the current city limits. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning
Commission staff will
review this area to see
if any or all of it meets state standards for involuntary
annexation. They will present maps of the areas that qualify for
annexation to the City Council in summer 2008.
The 2009 study area
is is identical to the study area for the 2007 annexation. However,
none of this area (or any other area in Steele Creek) was selected
for annexation in 2007.
Every two years the
City of Charlotte annexes areas adjacent to the city that meet state
standards for urban development. Annexations regularly become
effective on June 30 in odd-numbered years.
All or portions of
the study area may be annexed in June 2009. Since no other areas
within Steele Creek are within the study areas, no other areas of
Steele Creek can be annexed involuntarily before the next annexation
cycle in 2011.
