Support Steele Creek Trails at RiverGate Grand Opening May 5

(April 28, 2007) RiverGate Shopping Center will celebrate its Grand Opening on Saturday, May 5 from 12 noon until 3 P.M.

The Steele Creek Community Trail Committee will have a table at the event with information about community efforts to develop a network of trails throughout Steele Creek. The committee will sell Trail T-shirts and have petitions available for visitors to sign and show support for trails in Steele Creek.

Childress-Klein Properties, developers of RiverGate, constructed the first greenway trail in Steele Creek along Walkers Branch at the northern edge of RiverGate. This trail is now part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Park and Recreation Department's Greenway system.

The petition in support of trails in Steele Creek is directed towards Commissioner Norman Mitchell, who represents the Steele Creek area on the Mecklenburg County Board of County Commissioners. The text is as follows:
Dear Commissioner Mitchell:
I support the Steele Creek Community
    Trail/Walkers Branch Greenway.
Our community wants it and needs it.
We need your help to ensure this project
becomes a high priority for the county.
I look forward to walking with you on the trail.
