Group Meets to
Discuss Improvements to Olympic and Other Community Facilities
(December
16, 2006) About a dozen Steele Creek residents met last week to
discuss how to draw the community together to encourage support for
area schools, parks, and other facilities. The community needs to
speak out to raise awareness of area needs and rally residents
behind projects that will enhance the livability of Steele Creek
The main focus of
discussion was the need for improved athletic facilities at Olympic
High School. A report issues in 2004 showed that athletic facilities
at Olympic were among the worst in Mecklenburg County. Many
facilities are obsolete or missing altogether. The total estimated
cost of needed improvements was $5,441,332.
But other schools
have needs, and the community also needs improved parks, greenways,
and other facilities. These require money, which can come from the
city or county or could be raised by the community.
The group is in its
early stages of organization and plans to meet again on January 11.
