Neighbors Complete Planting in Library Garden
(August 31, 2006)
Last weekend, about two dozen library supporters and employees planted
one tree, 75 shrubs, and about 200 perennials in the Steele Creek
Library Garden. The garden is well on its way to becoming a key spot
for library activities, especially those involving children.
Jennifer Brown, owner of Wolf Tracks Designs Custom Landscaping
Design and Consultation in Charlotte, chose the plant types and
designed their placement.
The Steele
Creek Library Association has plans to add a sundial, birdfeeder,
and birdbath in the next few weeks. Several trees in the original
garden have died and need replacing. Supporters also
hope to get a Garden Committee organized to keep the garden up.
A few weeks ago,
Realiscape
Landscaping Service prepared the beds at a reduced cost and
Blue Max Materials donated two loads of garden soil.
Childress Klein Properties, developer of RiverGate, also made a
contribution.
The garden
preparation and plants have cost approximately $7,000, and the Steele Creek Library
Association is requesting donations to help meet the cost.
Any amount would be
welcome! If
you would like to contribute, please send your
tax deductible check, payable to
