Charlotte
Observer Launches "Neighbors of Southern Mecklenburg"
(August 20, 2006)
Beginning today and continuing in each Thursday and Sunday edition,
The Charlotte Observer will deliver a new section to
subscribers in southern Mecklenburg County.
The
Neighbors of Southern Mecklenburg section will feature local
news for the southern edge of the county, from Steele Creek east to
Mint Hill.
General news in
today's edition includes coverage of schools (back to school, school
crowding, and fall sports) and movie theaters (including Ayrsley
Grand Cinemas 14). It also has a range of snapshots submitted by
readers.
Specifically for
Steele Creek, stories cover The Palisades (Environmental
sensitivity is the goal at The Palisades) and the Friday
Night Music Fest at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church (Life
is a cabaret at Presbyterian church).
Southwest Briefs invite residents to help out in the
library garden next Saturday and to learn about Charlotte geography
at the library's Summer History Series.
Features that are
familiar to readers of the old Mecklenburg Neighbors insert will
continue in the new section , including Home Sales and Police
Blotter. There's also a calendar and
Soapbox for readers' comments.
Observer
editors invite readers to tell Neighbors of Southern Mecklenburg
editor Roland Wilkerson and his staff about your news. Call
704-358-5903 or e-mail:
mynews@charlotteobserver.com.
The new Neighbors of
Southern Mecklenburg is a great way for organizations to spread the
word about meetings and events to their Steele Creek neighbors. See
