STEELE CREEK NEWS
Library Garden
Planting is August 26 - Volunteers Needed
(July 30, 2006)
The south garden at the Steele Creek Branch Library has been
reworked and is ready for new plants. Volunteers are needed on
Saturday, August 26 beginning at 8:30 am to plant about 75 or 80
shrubs. Please bring a shovel, a bucket, and possibly something to
help with getting the weeds out. Dress to get down and dirty! Any
help would be appreciated.
The Steele Creek Library
Association has planned, organized, and paid for much of the
preparation work.
All you can see now are beds covered with hardwood mulch and
walkways covered with cypress chips, but underneath those is a layer
of garden soil and a drip sprinkler system. For a special project,
children will plant bulbs in the fall.
Realiscape
Landscaping Service prepared the beds at a reduced cost and
Blue Max Materials donated two loads of garden soil.
Childress Klein Properties, developer of RiverGate, also made a
contribution.
Donations for plants are needed.
$100 will buy a tree.
$25 will buy a bush, $10 or $15 will buy perennials. Any amount
would be welcome! Supporters also hope to get a Garden Committee
organized to keep it up.
If
you would like to contribute to the garden effort, please send your
tax deductible check, payable to Steele Creek Library Association,
