STEELE CREEK NEWS
Berewick Moving
Commercial Center to Steele Creek Road;
Public Meeting is May 16
(May 6, 2006)
The original layout of the new Berewick neighborhood currently under
development off Shopton Road West near Steele Creek Road, called for
a town center near its middle. The developers have decided to move
the commercial center southeast, adjacent to Steele Creek Road.
The change came about
because of the revised plans for realigning Dixie River Road and
Shopton Road West. (See the story
Traffic Signal Coming to
Steele Creek Road/Shopton Road West Intersection.) The new
commercial center will lie between the two new roads at the current
sites of the Steele Creek Baptist Church and the Masonic Temple.
Pappas Properties,
Developer of Berewick, has applied for a zoning change that will
allow relocation of the commercial center. (See
Rezoning Petition 2006-078.) The public hearing on the
application before the Charlotte City Council is scheduled for June
19.
The Walter Fields
Group, consultants assisting in the application, have scheduled a
public meeting for Tuesday, May 16 at 7:00 P.M. at the Mount Olive
Presbyterian Church Family Life Center (5125 Mount Olive Church
Road).
As Mr. Fields states
in his announcement of the meeting, "Sometimes with rezoning
petitions, information is not readily available to interested
parties and the facts about the request are misunderstood. The
petitioner, Pappas Properties would like to take this opportunity
to present this proposal to you so that you may have the facts about
the request. You may not have an interest in this particular
rezoning, but if you do, please plan to attend this meeting to learn
more about the proposal, share our comments, and have an opportunity
to ask questions."
If you have any
questions about this public meeting, you may contact the Walter
Fields Group at 704-372-7855.
Pappas Properties
will assist the Steele Creek Baptist Church to relocate to a site
near the center of Berewick. The Masonic Lodge has applied for
a rezoning that would allow it to relocate its Temple across from the
Steele Creek Library. (See
Rezoning Petition 2006-080.)
