2006) The Steele Creek Branch Library has scheduled a series of
presentations on Steele Creek and Charlotte History on the second
Thursday of each month from May through September. See a description

Celebrate Meck Dec
Day at Steele Creek
May 11, 2006 ~ 7:00-8:30 pm
Mystery has
surrounded the supposed historical document known as the Mecklenburg
Declaration of Independence, written on May 20, 1775 and celebrated
on May 20th in North Carolina for over 100 years as Meck Dec Day.
Jane Johnson of the library’s Carolina Room will tell us all about
this unique holiday.
Carolina Cooking and
Culture
June 8, 2006 ~ 7:30-8:30 pm
Join us for some
Carolina cooking and culture with recipes and samples from Hungry
for home: stories of food from across the Carolinas, by Amy Rogers,
award-winning writer and Novello Festival Press editor.
Steele Creek History
July 13, 2006 ~ 7:00-8:30 pm
Long-time Steele
Creek resident, community leader, and President of the
Steele Creek
Library Association, Linda Blackwelder, will share her intimate
knowledge of Steele Creek and its history.
Steele Creek and
Charlotte in the World Wars
August 10, 2006 ~ 7:00-8:30 pm
Jane Johnson of the
library’s Carolina Room will talk about the contributions Steele
Creek and Charlotte made to the war effort during World War I and
World War II.
The Geography of
Charlotte
September 14, 2006 ~ 7:00-8:30 pm
Charlotte attorney
David Erdman will tell us all about Charlotte’s geography and how it
has influenced its development and may affect its future.
