You're invited to
attend The Green Village, A Festival of Recycling and
Conservation featuring a Craft Fair and Community Yard Sale
(August
11, 2005) Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation and Mecklenburg
County Solid Waste Services will sponsor a recycling festival on
Saturday, October 8 from 9:00 to 2:00 at the McDowell Nature Center.
This is the third year in a row for the event.
The name of the event this year is: The Green Village, A Festival of
Recycling and Conservation featuring a Craft Fair and Community Yard
Sale. Sponsors will create a little village at the nature center
pavilion whose motto is "Reduce-Reuse-Recycle."
The festival will
have artists who use recycled materials selling their wares (garden
art, furniture, toys, quilted items, baskets). The Steele Creek
Library will collect gently used books and have a display on their
recycling program. There'll also be a native plant nursery, a post
office, a coffee shop and many more "stores" and organizations
represented that recycle items.
The Scrap Exchange from Durham will be there with a truckload of
industrial waste items that will be used to create make it and take
it art for kids and adults. There will be music, food and fun for
the whole family. School groups and scout troops will be able to
gain community service hours or work on badges as well.
