Charlotte to Hold Annexation Informational Meeting September 9

(September 1, 2004) The City of Charlotte will hold a public informational meeting on Thursday, September 9 to present its plans to annex eight areas into Charlotte in July 2005. Two of these areas are in Steele Creek, and they total almost 5,000 acres and have over 9,500 population.

The September 9 meeting is at 7:00 p.m. in Room 267 in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center, located at 600 E. 4th Street at the corner of S Davidson Street.  Free parking is available across Davidson Street in the parking deck.

Staff from various city departments will explain the annexation process and how each area qualifies. They also will be able to explain what city services to expect.

The Charlotte City Council will hold a public hearing at its regular meeting on  October 11. Residents will have the opportunity at that time to express their views on the annexation to the City Council.  The City Council meeting is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. in the meeting chamber in the Government Center. The public hearing likely will occur early in the meeting. Check the Charlotte City Council web page for the meeting agenda.

The City Council likely will pass the annexation ordinance in November, and it will take effect at midnight on June 30, 2005.

For more information on the annexation, see the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Commission Annexation Information page.
