Catholic Diocese
Begins Construction of Housing for Special Needs Adults
(July 10,
2014) The
Catholic Diocese of Charlotte Housing Corporation held a
groundbreaking yesterday for Mother Teresa Villas on S Tryon Street near
Moss Road.
Mother Teresa
Villas is a 13 unit affordable apartment complex for adults with
special needs developed through a
HUD grant and additional funding from
the NC Housing Finance Agency and the Charlotte Housing Trust Fund.
Mother Teresa Villa
will feature 13 units: 10 one-bedroom apartments, two two-bedroom
apartments, and one apartment for an on-site property manager.
This project is the
first phase on the 20-acre site approved for affordable senior
housing, a
future adult day care center, and a chapel. The site could
accommodate up to 240
units of affordable senior housing when it is eventually completed.
The project will also feature gardens, open space, and an outdoor
activity area.
InReach
will manage the facility. InReach provides residential and
community supports and services for children and adults with
developmental and other disabilities in residential and community
settings.
The property was
rezoned in 2011 to allow senior housing apartments. See
